This university-led project gave me the opportunity to propose and design a visual identity campaign for the 2025 Melbourne Cinémathèque, and develop a layout for an A1 printed calendar of its screenings, alongside a selection of digital assets.

I crafted an identity system that revolves around the idea of the ‘pixel’, a highly digital element that contrasts the predominantly historical films showcased at the Cinémathèque. I wanted to draw a connection between the current technological phase of filmmaking with the long history of the artistic medium.

To further develop the thematic of ‘film-watching’ I utilised the symbolism of the cinema seat, symbolic of the ritual and ceremony of going to the cinema. The cinema seat, shown in pixelated form, becomes the basis of all patterns throughout the identity.

The colour palette is inspired by the RGB colour system that photography and videography cameras use, and is also the way that pixels form colour on cinema screens.

Through this identity approach, I aimed to show a dynamic relationship between cinematic tradition and digital innovation.
