‘I am where I am’ is a zine I put together on my study tour in Italy. I was tasked with creating a publication that would reveal a clearly defined narrative or reflection about my experience living and studying in Prato.

The contents of the zine arose from my entries in a smaller, scrapbook-like journal that I kept during the trip. I focussed on the impact a place can have on a person in terms of lifestyle, personality and outlook. The zine takes note of the ways that I felt I had changed or adjusted myself to fit into an unfamiliar geographical location, particularly on the ways in which I felt improved or evolved.

The A5 folded zine embraces my feelings of stepping back and appreciating the beauty of day-to-day life through a visual style that is a little bit messy and unrefined. In an attempt to fight the tendency to overthink opportunities for creativity, I wanted to assemble the publication quickly and without dwelling on finer details. It is mostly photographic, dispersed with paragraphs of text taken from my journal.
